What is Physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy is a health care profession concerned with human function and movement and maximising potential. It uses physical approaches to promote, maintain and restore physical, psychological and social well-being taking account of variations in health status. It is science-based, committed to extending, applying, evaluating and reviewing the evidence that underpins and informs its practice and delivery. The above definition is taken from CSP curriculum framework (January 2002).
Physiotherapy can help with any bone, joint or muscle discomfort. Some common conditions treated are:
- Back pain.
- Frozen shoulder
- Headaches
- Neck pain.
- Rehabilitation pre/post orthopaedic surgery
- Repetitive strain injury
- Sports injuries
- Stiffness
- Tennis elbow
- Whiplash
- Work related injury
A physiotherapist will take a thorough medical history in your initial assessment. A diagnosis can be made, and a treatment plan can be agreed. You will be included at every stage of your treatment, with an aim to improving your problem.
